The Idea
I've been active in the cosplay scene for years and kept experiencing the same thing: you look for fabrics, wigs, or a photographer – and end up on five different platforms, Facebook groups, and classifieds. Nothing is bundled, nothing is tailored to our community. I had the idea for CosHive for a while, but the right moment came when Alex picked the topic back up and encouraged me to give it a second try.
The Analysis
ulia and I developed the idea for CosHive together from the very start. Julia had the topic on her mind for a while, and when I picked it back up, it quickly became clear: the potential is huge. Over 150,000 active cosplayers in the DACH region, but no central platform that specifically caters to their needs. Together, we analyzed the market and developed a concept that combines community and marketplace – without the complexity of integrated payment processing. Supabase as the backend was the ideal choice to develop quickly and scalably.
The Design
From the very beginning, CosHive was about creating a platform that feels like a home for cosplayers. The design needed to reflect the creative energy of the community while remaining clear and intuitive. We worked closely with the community to make sure every click makes sense – from the fandom filter to the chat.
Concept Complete
After intensive analysis of the cosplay scene in the DACH region and close coordination within the team, the concept for the Minimum Viable Product was finalized. The platform architecture, moderation concept, fandom database, and all core features were defined – the foundation for development was set.
Beta Launch
CosHive opened its doors for the first time to 32 selected beta testers from the cosplay community. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive from the start – from usability to design. At the same time, testers provided valuable improvement suggestions, some of which were implemented within days.
Voices from the Community
I just want to say how great I think the platform is. You really put thought into it, from the design to the user-friendliness. You can tell that you know what you're doing. And it's really cool how quickly you've already implemented some of the feedback. Thanks for that.
MVP Development Complete
MVP development was completed. The React-based web application offers OAuth authentication, real-time chat, a fandom database with over 500 entries, and a comprehensive moderation system. Development of the React Native mobile app began in parallel.
CosHive Goes Live
On March 6, 2026, CosHive opened its doors to everyone – the transition from closed beta to public launch went smoothly. The community embraced the platform from the start, early users became active right away, and growth began immediately.
300+ Users & App Development Begins
Just a few weeks after launch, CosHive already counts over 300 registered users and nearly 400 active listings in the marketplace – with numbers continuing to grow. On Instagram, the community has reached the 500-follower mark. In parallel, development of the native apps for Android and iOS is already well underway.
This Is Just the Beginning
CosHive is more than a platform – it's a project that grows with its community. The launch proved it: the demand is there, the community is on board. Over 300 users and nearly 400 listings within just a few weeks speak for themselves. Now the focus is on the mobile app for Android and iOS – and everything the community wants next. CosHive belongs to the community. And that's exactly how it feels.
